Trainer Pat Flynn is firing in winners with ever-increasing regularity and the Ballingarra Stables operator continued his stellar season at Bellewstown on Wednesday by sending out Summer Isles to collect the Lougher Stables Handicap with Danny Grant.
Owned by Flynn’s long-standing patron Patrick Sweeney, Summer Isles broke well from an unfavourable wide draw and the victorious three-year-old made all the running to beat Fleet Captain by three lengths.
Running off a lowly mark of 48 here, Summer Isles is now set for a hike in the ratings and she looks one to keep on the right side of over the coming months.
Ted Veale, a winner at the Cheltenham festival in March, showed admirable battling qualities with Steven Clements to collect the closing Irishmirror.ie (QR) Race.
The Tony Martin-trained Ted Veale, a former point-to-pointer, dug deep from the one-furlong marker to get on top inside the final 50 yards to beat Alhellal by three parts of a length. Ted Veale was then incidentally sent to York on Saturday for the valuable Ebor Handicap over one mile six furlongs and he finished a fine fourth to Tiger Cliff, earning connections some £11, 650.
