This was expected to be a tough encounter for WIT at the RSC last week but the side managed by Paul O’Brien and John Douglas had no difficulty getting past the challenge of Belfast Metropolitan College who finished the game with only nine players at the breezy Kilbarry venue.
The Waterford based outfit will now participate in the last four with a great deal of confidence as they are a well balanced outfit and don’t appear to have any real weakness in their armour. Sprinkled with some Waterford United players Paul O’Brien’s team could, with a little bit of luck, bring the trophy back to the local campus in the coming weeks.
The visitors from Belfast had the first shot on target after 12 minutes when Kyle Reid took a quick free kick after he was fouled into the path of right back David McWinter but his well struck right-footed shot from 25 yards was brilliantly held by WIT goalkeeper Cormac O’Brien.
