Henry Gowran’s Saturday meeting was all about one horse namely Sizing Europe for  Henry de Bromhead’s star charge made a stylish winning return to action in the  Grade 2 PWC Champion Chase over two and a half miles.

Sizing Europe always travelled with aplomb for Andrew Lynch and he took the  measure of the front running Rubi Light at the second last before having sufficient  reserves of stamina left to fend off the fast-finishing Baily Green by one and a  quarter lengths.

It’s quite possible that the 169-rated Sizing Europe, who was posting his third  consecutive victory in this same race, will now contest the Grade 1 Champion  Chase over three miles at Down Royal next month.

On Friday, Henry de Bromhead experienced the best possible start to the Co Kilkenny venue’s two-day meeting courtesy of Bishops Road in the Gowran Park Maiden Hurdle over two miles.

Bishops Road, de Bromhead’s very first runner for Gigginstown House Stud, supplemented his Killarney bumper victory in May by leading from the third last to see-off Rock The World by one and three quarter lengths. Bishops Road, in common with Buckers Bridge sourced from Mark Molloy’s Crossogue Stud in Co Tipperary, will now take in another novice hurdle but he’s viewed as an exciting steeplechase prospect.
