PicC Persistence well and truly paid off for Passage’s John Whitty at a sun-kissed Walsh  Park on Saturday evening last as the men from the Barony maintained their  unbeaten run in this year’s Championship in dramatic circumstances.
Having struck several wides during a largely frustrating 60 minutes, a lesser man  might have wallowed in self-pity or felt a hamstring mysteriously tightening. But  not Whitty.
With less than 90 seconds remaining, Whitty surged past several Mount Sion defenders, to drill the ball low and true beyond ‘Iggy’ to seal a memorable win for Peter Queally’s side.
In truth, with both sides already through to the quarter-final stages, defeat won’t trouble the Monastery men all that much as they cast an eye beyond next Sunday’s final round of ‘regular season’ fixtures.
Nonetheless, to lose a match so late on will have irked the men in navy, and that could mean further bad news for Roanmore, fresh from a 25-point defeat to Abbeyside.
