A Waterford golfer will feature on Sky Sports TV next Monday and Tuesday night (8pm).

John Lynch, a 5 handicapper playing out of the Waterford Club, will be seen winning a prestigious competition sponsored by Savile Row tailor William Hunt, at the Buckingham Course, north of London.

There were over 130 entrants in the winner-takes-all 18 hole event for low to mid handicappers, with the four leading scorers playing off over an extra 3 holes to determine the top player.

John, winner of his club’s Junior Scratch Cup two years ago, held his nerve a la Padraig Harrington and played the three holes in one under par to collect a magnificent perpetual trophy, along with several other prizes. They included a lesson from David Leadbetter, a round of golf with a Callaway sponsored player (possibly Phil Mickelson) and a visit to a Callaway manufacturing facility where he will be fitted out for a set of custom made clubs.

The competition, along with a pro event which preceded it, was covered by Sky Sports.

John, 29, is son of David and Olive Lynch, Ballinakill Court, and he is a sales representative for Cuisine de France.

William Hunt is famous for his trilby hats, highlighted, along with the Buckingham Course as it happens, in the James Bond film Goldfinger in the 1960’s.
