The Corcadorca production of Request Programme, which has been doing the Irish festival rounds is a thirty year old German one-woman show set in an apartment with Eileen Walsh as the actress who goes through a routine of coming home, disrobing and the audience of fifteen follow her around from kitchen to bedroom to toilet. An uneasy moment and the closeness is amazing. People watched the TV as the woman watched the TV but I watched Walsh as she created the edgy sense of a sad person, an excessive compulsive who made cups of tea, washed and scrubbed up repeated and checked her phone for messages. After a compelling hour she undressed and got into bed, put off the lights and in the darkness you could hear her sobbing.
She got up, went downstairs, the audience following her as she carefully laid out an overdose of tablets and swallowed then one after another. Blackout.
