Carrick Business Association (COSBA) Chairman Seamus Campbell has highlighted his organisation’s concerns with the escalating levels of anti-social behaviour around the town.
In a letter despatched to all sporting clubs in Carrick, Mr Campbell stated: “In recent weeks, we have been aware of an increase in anti-social behaviour with youths, especially young males, on the Streets of our town.
That is very stereotypical to say that there is “anti social behaviour with youths”. Not all youths are causing anti social behaviour around the town. When the press talk about teens they throw them all into the one boat and say that they are causing trouble, what about the voluntary YOUTH organisations in the town? There are many groups such as GAA clubs, the Irish Red Cross, Youth Saint Vincent de Paul, Comhairle na nÓg, dance groups, the musical society, the athletic club and plenty more groups and there are many youths involved in these. It is not fair to say that youths are anti social because there are plenty who volunteer there time to their community. To finish I’d like to say, get to know them and see what they do for the community before you criticise them.
