A group largely drawn from Waterford has travelled to Newfoundland for the Festival of the Sea held in St John’s, part of the biennial exchange between both cities.
The St John’s party which travelled here last year took in the sights and attractions of Waterford city, New Ross and Carrick-on-Suir as part of the renewed transatlantic relationship.
A hurling match was played on September 17th at the Swilers Rugby Club grounds as part of a local drive to revive the game which was played on a regular basis up to the 1960s. Locals have compared the clash of the ash to field hockey, a cousin of ice hockey, Canada’s national sport.
