As cup semi finals go, this was as good as it gets as two committed teams turned on the style for the sizable attendance on what was a glorious Sunday morning in Ozier Park.
Both sides played some wonderful football and three of the four goals scored were right out of the top drawer, goals to grace any game at any grade.
While St Saviours came out on top, but credit has to go to a Ferrybank team who played their part a really superb contest.
Their season is now over and following their long battle to avoid relegation they will now have to re-group and build a team who will not have to struggle for another season. On this performance they are already on the right road to achieve that aim.
Ferrybank took up the running from the opening whistle and they pressed St Saviours back during the opening minutes of the match.
They almost took the lead after three minutes when Saviours goalkeeper Graham Cleary picked up a pass back from Trevor O’Regan.
Sean Flynn passed the ball to Kevin Roche from the indirect free kick eight yards from goal but Roche shot narrowly over the crossbar.
St Saviours opened the scoring against the run of play, and what a brilliant goal it proved to be. Billy Barron sprayed a long ball from the right over to Timmy Ryan from the left.
Ryan crossed deep into the six yards box and Joe Twomey found the net with a brilliant overhead kick.
Ferrybank almost fell further behind on 32 minutes when Brian O’Donoghue connected with a cross from Timmy Ryan but his volley missed the target by inches.
Jono O’Byrne had a glorious opportunity to level matters just before half time when he raced on to a ball from Brian Mallon but with only goalkeeper Graham Cleary to beat, he shot wide from 10 yards.
Ferrybank went all out for the equaliser when the second half got underway and Cleary had to be at his very best to save an effort from Richard Gaffney.
