The substantial development plans for De La Salle college, revealed in The Munster Express last week, follow the already huge renovations which have taken place at the school over the summer.
Enthusiastic principal Gearóid M O’Brien has ambitious plans for developing an astro-turf GAA sized pitch, new basketball and tennis courts, and an underground 400 space car park, on the school grounds.
Extensive renovation work was carried out throughout the summer months, creating increased facilities including eight new classrooms, two art rooms and a meditation room.
“I believe that when you do something, you do it well”, said Mr O’Brien.
The top floor of the college, which had been closed and filled with junk since 1991, was completely renovated and now contains classrooms and two large art rooms.
“The art rooms would rival those in any university in Ireland”, said the proud príomhoide.
Many new IT features have been introduced into the college, which this year had its highest ever intake of first years at 248 students.
Every teacher now has access to a laptop and a projector, as well as having their own classroom for the very first time, and there are several interactive whiteboards located throughout the school.
Two blocks of new student toilets have been installed, as well as toilets for staff on each floor.
