De La Salle are seeking a public apology for what they see as the humiliation inflicted on John Mullane at Fraher Field last Saturday.

Certainly the rule about suspended players keeping their distance seems silly, and it’s not as if it’s routinely applied. Not being allowed to play was punishment enough, and Mullane does enough voluntary stuff for the GAA in Waterford, quite apart from his brilliance on the hurling field, to warrant some slack.

Whatever the outcome the two games have created a lot of bad blood between two of the county’s foremost clubs at a time when Waterford hurling needs everyone to pull together.
