An impressive defensive performance in the second half helped Villa book their place into the next round of the SFAI U14 cup when they defeated St Brendans Park of Kerry at Connors Park on Saturday afternoon last. Striker Luke Power netted twice and Ryan Philips also scored for the Waterford boys.
The visitors looked a lively outset from the off, with centre forward Jessie O’Sullivan causing a few problems up front. He’d a chance to give his side the lead on eight minutes when he latched onto a left-wing cross from George Carneipe; however, he failed to trouble Villa netminder Stephen Doheny.
The home side had a chance to go in front on 14 minutes when Luke Power had a goalbound effort blocked by visiting defender Cian Sheridan into the path of Luke Fitzgerald but the winger fired over the crossbar from the right side of the penalty area.
