Resaved Inset THE proposed new Tramore Racecourse site on the Back Strand has been put up  for sale.
It is to be sold as farmland with the 186 acre site expected to make €1.2 to €1.3  million according to auctioneer Tom Grace of Halley Grace who is a joint  auctioneer for the site with Lawrence McDonald (Tramore).
While some point-to-point race meetings held on the Back Strand site, the cost of  developing a new track proved too much, given that the ‘old’ track at Graun, in use  again last weekend for the August Festival, remained unsold.
The proposed new track, which receiving planning permission from Waterford County Council in 2006 would have been flat, unlike the hilly Graun site and would certainly have led to improved and expanded race cards at future meetings at the seaside resort.
But in all likelihood such a development is now unlikely to come to pass in the immediate term, the latest in a series of blows for Tramore and the greater Waterford economy.
