For the second week running the weather ruined the fixture list on the local scene. Many games fell by the wayside on Saturday last and on Sunday there was a blanket call off of games. Hopefully this coming weekend will see a full list of games played.

In the Premier League on Saturday night the leaders Bohemians are due to play St Saviour’s who are snapping at their heels. If the Saints win they will close the gap on Bohs to just one point. The game will be played in Ben Wadding Park at 7.15pm. On Sunday Dungarvan United will host the champions Carrick United in Kilrush Park. Two struggling teams, Johnville and Ferrybank meet in St Martin’s Park in what is a real “six pointer” in every sense.

Title-chasing Waterford Crystal will play at home to Villa. All Sunday games kick off at 11am. Last Saturday the Waterford team lost 3-0 away to Cork in the FAI Inter League Cup. Following victories over Kerry and Clare, the local side knew a draw or at 2-0 defeat would see then top their group.

Things were looking good with only 2 minutes remaining as the score stood at 1-0 in favour of the Cork side but two very late goals (one in injury time) meant that it was Cork who topped the group and Waterford had to be content with the runners up position. They will not by all accounts now receive a bye in the next stage and probably have to play their next game away from Ozier Park.
