Colm Wilkinson filled the Theatre Royal to capacity for two nights and could have packed it out for more. From the moment he walked out to front a seven piece band, including grand piano to the thunderous standing ovation nearly three hours later, this was world class entertainment.
He delivered the power ballads, the dramatic show tunes, the torch songs and the wailing like the cat who got the double cream of consummated dreams.
As the band opened on a great Phantom Overture, he stood in the garish light and invited the audience to listen to the Music of the Night. When he got to the sustained note and “You’ll live like you never lived before” the place was high on emotion and ready to enjoy themselves.
