The setting was simple, the newly exposed back wall (part of City Walls), a grand piano, a stool and a chair, low yellow lighting as Julian Lloyd Webber walked onstage with his cello and pianist Pam Chowhan. A simple Good Evening and he spoke to his audience as he did throughout the evening and thus began a gentle world class Evening with Julian Lloyd Webber.

The familiar Bach, Adagio in G was so welcoming, as welcoming as the theatre was in its new finery. The emphasis was on reassuring restful “recherché du temps perdu” and Lloyd Webber continued to champion, British composers as he played a bitty Bridge Scherzetto, a Britten Scherzo Pizzicato.
