Waterford Crystal 4; Hibernians 2

Waterford Crystal returned to winning form on Sunday and the main man was Paul Quilty who scored the first hat-trick of the current season.

Crystal have gone through a terrible time of late and they will take a great deal of heart from this much-needed win. Hibernians on the other hand remain deep in the relegation area, on a total of seven points.

Joe Watson opened the scoring from a free kick after 12 minutes but he then got sent off 14 minutes later following a reckless tackle. Despite having only ten players, Crystal increased their advantage on 42 minutes when Paul Quilty scored following a super pass from Martin Tynan.

Hibs fought back in great style and they pulled a goal back 5 minutes into the second half. Joey Phelan and David McGrath worked well together before setting up JJ Hutchinson, who gave Derek Hearne no chance from close range.

Dayne Ormonde was then taken down by Martin Sturmas 4 minutes later and David McGrath equalised from the penalty spot.

Crystal regained the lead in stunning fashion after 71 minutes. Mitchel Casey played the ball forward to Paul Quilty who shock off tackles from John Boland and Ian O’Regan before chipping the ball over goalkeeper Brian Power from outside the penalty area.

Quilty completed his haul one minute from full-time by touching home a pass from Jimmy Barden, who had got around goalkeeper Brian Power before pulling the ball back for Quilty.
