PicA Hayley Fitzsimons is one hell of a character, as anyone from her native Portlaw will tell you.  Always has been.
Not only does she possess a gregarious spirit, a glint in her eye and a million dollar smile, but  Hayley’s also a winner, a high achiever, a World Champion.
And on Saturday last, family, friends and neighbours in the Tannery Town saluted her medal  winning achievements at the World Dwarf Games, which were held in Michigan State University  in the United States between August 3rd and 10th.
For the record, Hayley returned to these shores with a Gold Medal and new World Record in the  Javelin, along with a Bronze and Personal Best in the Discuss, and also achieved a new ‘PB’ in the  Shot Putt.
She was part of a successful Irish team which, under the guidance of Chef de Mission Frank  Hannon came home with a fantastic haul of 47 medals.
To honour her achievements, the Portlaw Community Centre Committee staged a homecoming event on Saturday last, with Hayley being led into the Community Centre by lone piper Elton Power.
