Waterford City Council gave the go-ahead on Monday night last for street improvement works at The Glen. The project will create new amenity space in front of The Forum, to include the provision of quality paving, landscaping, street furniture, lighting, tree planting and a new sculpture.

The road layout is to be redesigned and the existing road in front of the venue pedestrianised, with parking spaces reconfigured.

On foot of a submission from local resident Eileen Horgan, it was decided to relocate a taxi set-down area from the west side of the space to its east side, away from residential properties.

The Council also approved a two-storey childcare centre and playground at Carrickphierish, construction of an ESB substation in the grounds of the former Presentation Convent at Slievekeale Road and the construction of three bungalows at Larchville.

The latter project is in accordance with the Larchville / Lisduggan area development plan, but Cllr Joe Kelly voiced reservations regarding an intention to keep open a throughway between 196 and 197 Larchville.

He was told by Mr. Lar Power, Director of Housing, Emergency Services, Community and Enterprise, that the matter could be revisited if it was considered necessary.
