Villa lost ground at the top of the table in being beaten by Tramore in Graun Park on Saturday night. Martin Whelan put the home side in front but Paul Omotoso celebrated his call-up to the Oscar Traynor Cup squad by equalising before half-time.
It looked as if the points would be shared but four minutes from full time Dean Purcell fouled Robbie Phelan inside the area and Leigh Quilty scored from the penalty spot, his second goal of the campaign. This victory keeps the champions hot on the heels of Carrick at the top.
