RTE’s South East Correspondent Damien Tiernan’s account of Waterford senior hurlers’ Championship travails since 1998 has earned him a place on the longlist of two major national book awards.
‘The Ecstasy And The Agony’, which was launched last week, has made it into the frame for both the William Hill Sports Book of the Year and the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards.
“It’s a great boost,” said the author, who is interviewed in page six of this week’s Sport pull-out. “Getting on the longlist is fantastic news and sure if it got any further than that, it would be a bonus, to be honest.”
Damien added: “That the book has been afforded this sort of recognition is a tremendous source of validation for me on a personal basis, and who knows, it might help sell a few more copies too, which I’d be thrilled with.”
