It is often difficult to get the complete list of AIMS Awards Nominations and then you get individual societies only publicising their own achievements, not that that is such a bad thing. However, the five well-deserved nominations for Carrick-on-Suir’s innovative Mikado with a Swing overshadowed nominations for Edmund Rice, De La Salle and New Ross.
There are two sections of Awards; the Gilbert section for societies who have a recent track record and the Sullivan for first or championship division rather than premier. Carrick are in the Gilbert.
In the Sullivan, Greta Rochford got a Best Comedienne nomination for the title role in De La Salle’s Annie Get Your Gun and the same society got a Best Technical nomination (Lighting, Set and Sound). Edmund Rice are the only nomination with their, The Mikado, for Best G & S/Pre 1935 Show/Modern Opera. So, a rapturous congratulations to them.
New Ross go Best Actor In Supporting Role nomination for Owen Brady as Philip in Clown.
The Carrick Mikado With A Swing got prestigious Best Overall Show nomination as well as Spirit of AIMS nomination for Fergal Carroll’s new adaptation of the music. Irene Malone got a Best Comedienne nomination for her role as Katisha. Liam Butler gor a Best Actor nomination for his quirky Mikado and Fergus Power a Best Supporting Male nomination for a George Melly style Pooh-Bah.
Carrick also had Brendan Mulvanney nominated for the Mary Kelly Award as did New Ross’s Maureen Clerkin.
Carrick are up against a fancied Wexford production of Ragtime with six nominations. A Titanic show from Ballinrobe got five nominations but no Overall show nomination.
