Clonea 0-13; Brickey Rangers 1-9

Clonea claimed the Junior B County Hurling title in Walsh Park last Saturday afternoon after a tense one point win over a gallant Brickey Rangers outfit.

Few, bar this writer in The Munster Express last week, gave the Brickeys’ any hope in this final but in the end, it was a great performance by Clonea goalkeeper Johnny Kavanagh which proved one of the primary aspects of Clonea’s victory.

Clonea enjoyed the battle for possession in the early stages and led by a Willie O’Brien point when Brickeys’ were dealt a blow in only the second minute when regular free-taker, Paul Veale limped off with a hamstring injury.

After this, the western team went through a couple of different free-takers before eventually settling on corner-forward Conor Walsh. Had they settled on him earlier, they may well have won this game.
