Southend United 0; Carrick United 3
Southend United’s title chances are more or less over following this home defeat on Sunday, but rule Carrick United out at your peril. They have moved into third position on the league table with a total of 17 points but they have two games in hand of the leaders Tramore and should they win those games there would be only two points in the difference.
They were never in any danger in this contest. They took the lead through Ian Cleary after 24 minutes and from then on the result was never in any doubt. To make matters worse for the home side, Michael Farrell put through his own net before Glen Keane wrapped up the match for Carrick 10 minutes before the full-time whistle.
Carrick have their sights set on winning the Munster Cup, but they have also now laid down their intentions of getting their hands back on the league trophy.
