RTE1 Prime Time Investigates hit the shock, horror button with its revelations on the international gangs and Irish criminals who flood this country with millions of cheap and counterfeit cigarettes. Amid all the statistics it is mind-boggling to think that people who get cigarettes for €4 on a street or market and that they would think they are getting the genuine article.

Surely they must know the ingredients must be nasty, dodgy and dangerous – more dangerous than genuine cancer sticks.

But the brass neck of people who appeared on screen doing deals. The TV team could sit down with these gangsters and visit their houses, yet no Garda action has apparently been taken. If small budget TV can track these criminals, why cannot the Gardaí take more positive action.
