Having followed the fortunes of Ferrybank AC for over a decade I was delighted to see the scintillating performances turned in by many of the club’s athletes at the National Senior Championships in Morton Stadium, Santry last weekend. Ferrybank athletes have, for many years, been no strangers to success but the victories that made the club a dominant force at juvenile level are now being replicated at senior level across a wide range of disciplines both on the track and in the field. The club brought a strong, fit team to Santry last weekend fully expecting to pick up national titles. However a haul of eight gold medals (six individual and two relay) along with two silver and four bronze medals was undoubtedly beyond even the most optimistic of expectations. Seven years after winning her first national title at senior level Kelly Proper lit up the Morton Stadium with one brilliant performance after another to win three individual gold medals in addition to the gold she won with her teammates in the 100-metre relay and was named as ‘athlete of the meeting’.
