PicAA CAMPAIGN is underway to return large scale manufacturing of Waterford Crystal back to the city. Trade union UNITE last week outlined plans for its European legal campaign aimed at forcing the current owners KPS to repatriate manufacturing of the brand back to Waterford.
Speaking at a press conference at the UNITE offices on Keizer Street last Thursday, UNITE Regional Secretary Jimmy Kelly explained the reasoning behind the move. “This isn’t a hostile move looking for a fight with anybody,” he said. “It’s genuinely coming from an assessment that we made over the past year looking at the possibilities as to how we could get the brand name returned and located in a way that has jobs and production based here in Waterford.”
Currently, some crystal products are being made in the city yet the majority are made abroad but are still sold under the original Waterford trademark.
