Cost cutting bed closures in Dungarvan Community Hospital and St Patrick’s Hospital, Waterford, will remain in place to the end of the year but will reopen in January, according to Richard Dooley (Waterford-Wexford Health Services).

Waterford County Council had protested against the closure of the 16 hospital beds in Dungarvan Community Hospital in a recent letter to Health Minister James Reilly.

Explaining the reasons for the bed closures and other cut backs, Mr Dooley said there was currently a budget over-run of €3million in the Waterford Community Service.
