There’s a Blaa-head in Whitehall, sort of! The Munster Express has learned of new British Prime Minister David Cameron’s Waterford roots.

Mr Cameron’s great-great-great-great-great grandmother Dorothea Jordan, (nee Bland) is believed to have been born in Waterford circa 1762 and was a famous actress on the London theatre scene in the late 18th century.

She made her stage debut at the Playhouse at Blackfriars in a production of Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’, leaving Waterford in 1774 before moving to London’s Drury Lane Theatre via Cork’s Theatre Royal.

Dorothea Jordan later became the mistress of King William IV of England, with whom she bore 10 children. One of these children, Elizabeth, is Mr Cameron’s forebear, so the link to Waterford, it would appear, is genuine when it comes to Britain’s new PM.
