Further evidence of joined-up thinking was in evidence at City Hall on Friday last at the launch of a new tourism initiative involving Waterford City Council, Waterford Chamber and city centre hoteliers.
In an attempt to boost retail footfall numbers, anyone staying at one of the city’s dozen hotels will gain significantly discounted rates to access both Waterford Museum of Treasures and the Christchurch Cathedral tour.
The new scheme, announced just days after news broke of a €9million investment for the city’s Viking Quarter, will add impetus to the positive vibes emanating through Waterford business currently.
And with the WWRD development on The Mall progressing well, Mayor John Halligan spoke enthusiastically about what lies ahead.
“This promotion shows just what can be done when minds are concentrated on delivering one particular project,” he said.
“I hope that the promotion brings thousands of tourists in to the city, as I know the amount of effort and work necessary to get this type of promotion off the ground.”
The idea of drawing visitors into the heart of the city centre should have a positive spin-off effect for city retailers, according to Mayor Halligan.
