Bishop’s Palace to be refurbished as 18th Century Museum

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, work on the new Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre on The Mall is proceeding to schedule, with the facility’s expected opening set to meet its June deadline.
Speaking at Monday evening’s meeting of Waterford City Council, City Manager Michael Walsh stressed that contractors were “working assiduously” to meet the June target.
“I think we can all see very clearly the physical works that are happening right across the road from us at the moment,” Mr Walsh told Councillors.
“And while considerable work has yet to be carried out on the site, it’s clear that both contractors working on the job have very seriously applied themselves to the task in hand.”
Mr Walsh added: “I am confident that we will be able to conclude the works as originally envisaged at the outset of this project.”
And while nothing is set in stone, Mr Walsh told Councillors that the official opening of the new facility has been provisionally pencilled in for “the third week in June” (rather than June 3rd as reported in our Early Edition).
The official opening, the Manager added, was completely dependant on “logistical considerations” given the Visitor Centre’s American ownership. However in a further comment, Mr Walsh stated: “All the ducks are in a row with regard to the opening.”
He continued: “I wish to stress that WWRD are running the centre and taking all the risks attached to it as both a tourist operation and as a bona fide manufacturing facility.”
