The latest Irish Business Against Litter Survey has listed Waterford City as ‘moderately littered’, with the county’s two other settlements, Tramore and Dungarvan, both making the ‘clean’ category.
Bray was named the cleanest of the 60 towns and cities inspected and graded by An Taisce during 2009.
A total of 39 were classed as ‘clean’ – a record since the IBAL Litter League (covering population centres of 6,000-plus) started seven years ago.
Under the ‘Clean to European Norms’ heading, Tramore came 19th and Dungarvan 23rd, while elsewhere in the southeast Clonmel came fourth, Wexford sixth, Carlow seventh, Kilkenny 26th, Enniscorthy 35th and Youghal 36th.
Found to be ‘Moderately Littered’ were Waterford City in 40th place, Gorey 44th and New Ross 49th. Further down the rankings, Cork and Dublin cities were deemed to be ‘Littered’, while Limerick is a ‘Litter Blackspot’.
