Divisional and County Bórd na nÓg Conventions were held recently and there is no major changes in personal at divisional or county level for the year ahead.
In the west, Brendan Tobin of Naomh Brid was re-elected as chairman and will have Billy Devine of the Lismore/Ballysaggart Óg club as vice-chairman. Trish Walsh of the St Patrick’s Club was returned as secretary.
Pat Morrissey of the Brickey Rangers Club continues as the treasurer and will have Kevin Tobin from Abbeyside/Ballinacourty as an assistant. Tom Guiry from The Nire and Seamus O’Brien of Abbeyside/Ballinacourty will continue as PRO and registrar respectfully.
In the East Jim Murphy from Mount Sion was returned as Chairman with Vera Cannell of Tramore as vice chairperson. Pat Whelan from Mount Sion was returned as secretary and Jack Laffan from Portlaw returned once again as Treasurer. Declan Murphy from Portlaw was elected as the board’s registrar.
There was no change either at county level, with Sean Walsh from An Gaeltacht returned for a second year as chairman. Robert Grace from Mount Sion and Portlaw’s Jack Laffan were returned as secretary and treasurer respectively, and Seamus O’Brien from Abbeyside/Ballinacourty and Gavin Whelan from the St Patrick’s Club re-appointed as Registrar and PRO.
Two motions were dealt with at convention. Dungarvan proposed that the under-16 football championship revert back to a divisional series with the East and West winners meeting in the county final. Cois Bhride tabled a similar motion asking that under-14 hurling also revert back to a divisional championship with the winners meeting in the county decider. Both motions were defeated and as a result both championships will continue to be all-county affairs in 2010.
It is also understood that a number of other motions were submitted and that these are currently been circulated to clubs to be dealt with at the board’s first delegate meeting of 2010.
