Details of the new policing strategy for South Kilkenny were revealed by Garda representatives when they met members of Kilkenny County Council at a meeting of the Piltown Electoral Area Committee in Newrath.
A newly upgraded Mooncoin Garda Station with a force of three sergeants and thirteen gardai will be the new administration centre in South Kilkenny with additional gardai deployed in satellite stations in Mullinavat, Piltown, Glenmore.
A Garda deputation consisting of Supt Gerry Redmond, Thomastown, with Sergt Jim Connolly, Piltown, set out the new arrangements which are due to come into operation shortly.
The Committee Chairman, Pat Dunphy (FG), welcomed the new policing scheme and said there was deep concern in Mooncoin over a series of incidents of anti-social behaviour and the vandalism. Wheelie bins were set on fire and windows smashed and there had been a packed public meeting in the village to consider law and order issues.
The new policing arrangements and the location of a total of 17 Gardai in the village was most welcome and it was good news for Mooncoin, he said.
