USA-based Tramore-born tennis player Andrea Maughan has been selected to play for the Irish team travelling to Serbia on June 27th to compete at the World University Games.

Daughter of Dr Eoin and Mia Maughan, Andrea, 21, who is on a tennis scholarship at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, was Junior Irish Open champion and Irish No1 at Under-10 (1998), U-12 (2000), U-14 (2002), U-16 (2004) and runner-up U-18 (2005).

She played for on the Irish U-17 tri-nations team in Jersey (’04) and on the U-21 team in Glasgow the following year.

A former student at Stella Maris, Tramore, she is currently playing Division 1 college tennis at her university, having just finished her penultimate (third) year of a major in exercise and sports science.

Andrea plays singles and doubles and received an All-Conference Doubles Award at this year’s conference tournament in April.

The Irish team competing at the World University Games (July 3rd-13th) comprises two girls, two boys and a coach. The team are currently seeking sponsorship from any interested parties.
