The number of new buildings officially recorded in Waterford City and County in 2008 was 1,014 – a near two-thirds drop on the previous 12 months – according to new figures released by GeoDirectory.

Jointly established by An Post and Ordnance Survey Ireland to create and manage Ireland’s only complete construction database, GeoDirectory identified 795 new residential buildings, 156 commercial units and 53 dual-purpose premises with both residential and commercial space in Waterford during last year.

The figures were recorded by 5,600 An Post delivery staff working with experts from OSi. They show a decrease of 64% on 2007 when 2,800 new buildings were identified.

These new additions bring the total number of buildings in the City and County to 53,099.

GeoDirectory will release figures for the first six months of 2009 in early July.
