Former Johnville, Shamrock Rovers and Kilkenny City midfielder Alan Delahunty has agreed a one-year deal with American Professional Indoor side Richmond Kickers.

Since starting a soccer scholarship in the United States in 2004, the Waterford man has spent time at Virginia Intermont College (where he won two State championships) and Virginia Commonwealth University – majoring with a degree in business – and has started all five games this season for Kickers this season.

Son of Patrick and Ann Delahunty, Alan, who went to school at Mount Sion CBS, is a former trainee at Swansea City and Bristol City. Described as a “good, vocal organiser”, the 24-year-old “will be vital player for the team this winter,” according to Kickers head coach Kyle Lessig. “He has a great engine, quality touch on the ball and a good football brain.”

Kickers play in the Premier Arena Soccer League, which runs from November to March, and is the biggest international indoor/arena soccer league in the world, with 54 teams in the US.
