The jobs of Adams’ staff at three stores in the city and county appear safe, despite this week’s announcement of 850 job cuts throughout the British-based children’s clothing chain.
There were fears for the jobs of Adams’ staff at its City Square and Shaw’s Waterford and Dungarvan outlets, after the company filed a notice of its intention to appoint administrators on Christmas Eve. The 75-year-old company, with 500 outlets in the UK, has since announced plans to close 111 shops, with the remaining 160 shops to stay open while efforts are made to sell the company.
A company spokesperson has confirmed that none of Adams’ 31 stores in the Republic will be affected by the closures. Of the 12 Adams’ stores in Northern Ireland, five will close with the loss of 45 jobs. PricewaterhouseCoopers, which was appointed as administrator to the firm on New Year’s Eve, said the job losses were ‘inevitable’ but added that it had received a number of expressions of interest in the Adams business and brand from prospective buyers.
