Johnville 3; Villa 2

Life is certainly not dull if you are involved in any way with the Johnville Premier League team in recent times. Back in early December they led Carrick 2-0 in the FAI Junior Cup only for the current holders to come back and win 3-2.

The following week Johnville travelled to Dungarvan for a league game in a confident frame of mind but they lost 5-2. Then they were trailing Waterford Crystal in the Munster Cup 2-1 when the game was abandoned due to an injury to the referee.

The following week they defeated Crystal 2-0 in the re-fixed fixture. On Sunday last they returned to league action and they looked odds on for all three points when they led 2-0 at half-time, thanks to goals from Gary Kelly and John O’Leary.

However, they took their foot off the pedal and Villa goals from Danny Walsh and Gerry Connors left the sides level with time almost up. But up stepped John O’Leary once again and he duly stroked home the winning goal in injury time.

This was a vital victory for Johnville due to the fact that Dungarvan defeated Waterford Crystal. Johnville remain one point behind the Old Borough side but they do have a game in hand.

Exciting times indeed for a Johnville side who do things the hard way.
