With four Fitzgibbon Cup wins with WIT to his coaching credit, the two-time All-Ireland winner with Tipp – whose most recent inter-county experience was under Ken Hogan – has an excellent pedigree.
With his son a big Déise fan, the adopted Dunhill clubman let his heart rule his head in backing Waterford to beat Kilkenny last September 7, despite having worked with the likes of Henry Shefflin, JJ Delaney and more recently TJ Reid at the Waterford Institute.
“I think Colm will be excellent,” says the man he succeeds, John Meyler, graciously. He might have added that as the eighth of 13 children, the Cashel man will be used to compromise.
