Despite noises to the contrary being made earlier yesterday (Tuesday), Cappoquin Chickens is to close within the next six weeks, with the loss of 250 full-time and seasonal jobs.

The news, confirmed by company management, has come as a huge blow to the West Waterford economy, with between 40 and 50 egg suppliers, dependant on the company, now also pondering their own professional futures.
The process of ‘winding down’ the company is now in train, bringing to an end a near half-century of business in the town.
The Irish Farmers’ Association says the closure has come as “another devastating blow” to both the national poultry industry and the local economy.
