It was heartache for the Waterford Under 14 League in Coolock on Sunday as they just came up short in dramatic circumstances.

Joe Kett from the Seaview Celtic club put them in front but Donegal equalised shortly afterwards through Carl McHugh.

The remainder of the game was very tight as indeed was the extra time period. Derrick Williams, the highly-rated Tramore player, had a chance to score the winning goal late on during the extra 20 minutes but the game had to be decided on penalties and it was the Donegal side who scored all five through Padraigh McBrettney, Gary Merritt, Calvin Radley, Gavin Gallagher and John O’Malley.

Jonathan McEvoy, Kevin Barry and Paddy Barrett did score for Waterford but unfortunately Derrick Williams was off target with his effort, Waterford’s second spot kick. Hard luck lads, you did us proud.
