A number of local secondary schools have communicated with parents and students to address fears over the coronavirus.Last week, St Paul’s Community College said the HSE had informed them that a region in Italy, recently visited by students, is of zero to low risk for coronavirus.
The school said it met with students and teachers and all are healthy and not presenting any symptoms of the virus.
In a text message to parents, the principal of St Paul’s said the school is following instructions from the HSE.A group of students from De La Salle College were in an area of Italy 200km from the nearest coronavirus death.
The students at that school are not being treated as high risk. Yesterday (Monday), in a text issued to parents, the principal of St. Declan’s Community College, Kilmacthomas said: “In light of a number of rumours that have come to my attention I need to clarify the following. We do not have a student or students with coronavirus in this school. One of our students returned from a trip to Northern Italy over the weekend. This student was in a village that was not affected by Covid 19. The student in now at home and will be for two days for their own peace of mind.”
The message continued: “The school and the parents of the child concerned are following HSE guidelines. We ask for your understanding and for business to continue as normal. We also ask that students be allowed to continue to attend school. We are working on supporting all students and parents and ask that the student and their parents be allowed to continue their daily lives with peace and quiet.”
